Ski Club

Ski Club Summary

August – Make sure school is signed up for Ski Club with Boston Mills – Contact Kim Kisner Boston Mills .

September – Get article on Highland Website and Highland newsletter (see folder for flyer) also get them sent out to students. –you must fill out a form in office to get permission to print and allow a couple of days for distribution. Hang any posters in the halls that BMBW provided.  Make sure article mentions BMBW open house for ski/snowboard sales (check BMBW website for details).

October -  Find out sign-up deadline to get tickets before Holiday break.  At this time you should get the login/password for the website.  Send out flyers giving your email information.  In order to sign up, they must email you requesting the login/password information.  I have a generic email that I send out, see the book for the copy.  This way you can keep track of everyone that signs up.  Make sure once someone signs up, that they email you with all the members that signed up with the student and the students teacher.

  • Åt this point it is very important to get familiar with the sign up process on the website.  There will be a lot of phone calls and emails from people needing help.
  • Schedule an orientation at Boston Mills – this is mandatory for new skiers/snowboarders.  Make sure the orientation date is on all ‘password/login’ emails.

November -  In early Nov,  You can send a mini reminder notice out (1/2 page) stating that deadline to sign up if you want your tickets before break.  Also the flyer should include the orientation date and time.  (see the book for the flyer).  The day after the deadline, make sure you ‘upload’ all the names from the website so that you know whose tickets to expect before break.

December -  There will be a final deadline, Last year was 12-20, but these tickets will be distributed the week before (or the night of) the club.  We sent out another ‘mini’ flyer in early Dec.

  • Before break (only a few days before) you will receive the tickets via UPS.  Get together with your committee members and sort them out. Make sure you make copies of the club rules and attach to the tickets (in the book)_. I put all the members tickets in the student’s envelope with the teachers name on it.  When you distribute them, make a note to the teacher that they need to go out immediately to the student.  Also email the family notifying that the tickets should go home in the next day or so.  Do not panic if there are mistakes on the tickets or you did not get them all, BMBW is very good about fixing the problem.

January -  The second round of tickets do come out about the week before club starts.  I gave them out the night of the club so I can make sure everyone gets them.  You can attach the club rules or what I did was sent an email stating that I have their tickets, they will be distributed the night of the club, attached to the email are the ‘rules’, please go over with your student.

  • Before the club starts, upload ALL the names from the website and create an emergency sheet.
  • Also you need to create a sign-up sheet for every week.  BMBW needs the attendance reported by 7:00 every club night.
  • Make sure you get familiar with the lessons and how they are running them this year
  • 2011 lesson
light green – dark green stickers – beginning lesson times
light blue – dark blue stickers – intermediate times
                 black – advance time

1ST DAY   – have all the committee members help sign in, ask one of the members to wear a Brecksville Shirt and stand outside the beginning of each lesson so they can direct the students.

  • Every week of the club there must be at least one adviser available at all times to help out. You can work that out with your committee members.
  • If there is an emergency, the person injured is transported to the first aid room and they will announce that a Brecksville Central Adviser should report there.  Usually the parent or guardian is already aware of what is going on, but if not, you need to get the emergency number and contact the parent/guardian.
  • Please contact Lisa Putka with any questions or additional information.  I will be more than happy to go over the website as well – lputka@roadrunner.com
